# Pinning projects to the sidebar

## Pinning a project puts a shortcut to it in the Favorites section of your sidebar and moves it to the top of every project picker. This guide is for anyone who works in the same few projects every day. It shows where to pin and unpin, how to hide pins without losing them, and why a pin sometimes disappears.

Pin a project to add it to **Favorites** in the left sidebar, so you can open it in one click. A pin is personal. Nobody else sees it, and it applies to one workspace at a time. Pinning works the same way in the web app and the desktop app. Toggl 2.0 is now called Toggl, and this feature has not changed.

\[VERIFY: pinning is not limited to a plan or role in the code I read. Confirm it is available on Free, and on mobile.\]

### Where Favorites appears

**Favorites** is a section of the sidebar, below **Plan** and **Manage**. It lists:

- Your pinned saved views first. See [Saved views in Toggl](https://docs.toggl.com/saved-views-in-toggl?hsLang=en).
- Your pinned projects after them.

Click a project to open its project page. Archived projects do not appear in **Favorites**. The section appears only when you have at least one pin.

### Pin a project

You can pin from four places:

1. **Projects list:** hover a row and click the pin icon next to the project name. Its tooltip says **Pin to sidebar**. Once pinned, the icon stays visible.
2. **Projects list, ⋯ menu:** open a project’s ⋯ menu and choose **Pin to sidebar**.
3. **Project page:** open the project, then open the ⋯ menu in the page header and choose **Pin to sidebar**.
4. **Project picker:** in any project picker, such as the Timer or the task form, click the pin icon at the end of a project’s row.

Pinning is instant. The project appears in **Favorites** straight away.

### Unpin a project

Use the same control. The tooltip and menu item now read **Unpin from sidebar**. Unpinning removes the project from **Favorites** and from the top of your pickers.

### Hide a pin without unpinning it

When the list gets long, hide projects from the sidebar and keep them pinned:

1. Right-click a project in **Favorites**.
2. Choose **Hide from sidebar**.

A hidden project stays pinned, so it still comes first in project pickers. Only the sidebar entry goes away. After you have four or more favorites, Toggl shows a one-time hint about this right-click.

To bring hidden projects back, right-click the **Favorites** heading, or right-click **Projects** in the sidebar, and choose **Show N hidden projects**. If you hide every favorite, the **Favorites** section disappears, so use the **Projects** right-click.

Hiding is stored in your browser or desktop app, per workspace. It does not follow you to another browser or device.

### Pinned projects in project pickers

In every project picker, pinned projects are listed first, under a **Pinned** heading. Next to the search box there is a pin button, **Show pinned projects only**, that filters the picker to your pinned projects. Click it again to see all projects.

### Who can pin

| Where | Who can pin |
| --- | --- |
| Projects list | Anyone who can open the Projects list, except Guests, and not for archived projects. |
| Project page menu | Anyone who can open the project, for projects that are not archived. |
| Project picker | Anyone who can open the picker. |

### Common questions

#### Do my teammates see the projects I pin?

No. Pins belong to you. Pinning a project does not change anything for other members, and it does not add you to the project or change what you can see.

#### Why did a project disappear from Favorites?

There are two common reasons. You may have hidden it: right-click **Favorites** and choose **Show N hidden projects**. Or the project may be archived, because archived projects are not listed in **Favorites**.

#### Why can’t I find the pin option on a project?

The pin icon on the Projects list appears when you hover the row. It is not available for archived projects. Guests have a read-only Projects list, so it does not offer pinning there.

#### What is the difference between a pinned project and a pinned saved view?

A pinned project opens one project. A pinned saved view reopens a saved combination of filters, grouping and sorting on the Tasks, Projects, Timeline or Reports page. Both appear under **Favorites**.

**Next step:** Open **Projects**, hover the project you use most and click the pin icon.
