# Pomodoro timer
Pomodoro is one of the timer modes in Toggl. You can choose it before you start a timer, from the timer mode button next to the play button, or switch to it while a timer is running.
### Timer modes
- **Count up from zero** — the default. The timer starts at 0:00 and counts upward until you stop it.
- **Count down from the set time** — set a duration before you start, and the timer counts down to zero.
- **Pomodoro** — work in focused intervals separated by short breaks. The timer runs through a work session, then prompts you to take a break before the next round.
### Starting a Pomodoro session
1. Open the **Timer** page from the Timer icon in the left navigation bar.
2. Type a description into the timer bar. If you want, choose a project or task from the project/task picker (picking a task fills in its project) and add tags.
3. Click the timer mode button, between the billable toggle and the timer, and select Pomodoro. The button shows your focus length (for example, 25m) once Pomodoro is selected.
4. Press play. The timer starts straight away as a Pomodoro focus session.
Already tracking? Open the timer mode button on the running timer and select Pomodoro. Your current timer switches to Pomodoro without stopping.
The timer runs your work interval, then prompts you for a break before starting the next round.
